ABOUT ME

Parvathi Muthuswamy

My journey in dance began in Bangalore, where I trained under Smt. K.S. Nagashree. Over the years, I have been under the tutelage of Sri Haripadman and Smt. Divya Haripadman, and I am currently under the guidance of Dr. Sreelatha Vinod.

I went on to pursue a Diploma in Bharatanatyam at Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai. This was followed by a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam at the University of Madras, where I graduated first in my class. Seeking to explore dance research, I also completed the Choreomundus International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice, and Heritage, a unique program spanning four universities: NTNU (Norway), Université Clermont Auvergne (France), University of Szeged (Hungary), and University of Roehampton (UK).

Alongside Bharatanatyam, I have trained in Kalaripayattu, Yoga, Kathakali, and Carnatic music, practices that continue to enrich my movement vocabulary and deepen my understanding of performance traditions.

As a performer, I have showcased my work across India and internationally, from temple spaces like Chidambaram to cultural stages such as the Nehru Centre (London), ISAK (Norway), and the Kalaayana Festival (Bengaluru). My presentation style weaves storytelling, technique, and curiosity to create meaningful connections with audiences.

As a researcher, my focus has been on sustaining traditional practices within contemporary contexts. My recent project explored Kai Silambattam, a Tamil ritual dance, through ethnographic study.

I am also a co-founder and member of Apsaramundus, an Indian Classical Dance collective that aims to connect with artists and audiences worldwide. With Apsaramundus, I have collaborated on workshops, stage performances and street shows across Europe and India, creating shared spaces of dialogue through movement.

At the heart of all these paths I aim to build spaces where students, audiences, and collaborators engage with dance through curiosity, learning, and shared discovery.
